Good Friday, Penance Procession Jesús Nazareno, Iglesia La Merced.
The Good Friday procession includes characters in Roman costume, one representing Pontius Pilate, and others dressed as Palestinians; also, representations of the Roman Praetorian Guard mounted on horses, giving with this an aspect of realism to the commemoration of the “Via Crucis” of Jesus.
This procession has the special feature in the ornament of the anda, as it represents the “Vía Sacra”. In a simple way evokes the path to Calvary. The image of the Nazarene wears a red robe without embroidery, carries a cross without carvings and a crown of thorns brought from the Holy Land.
FRI-APR 14 – 4:00 a.m.
Procession leaves Templo de La Merced and marches trough Antigua’s main streets. (Check map below)
