Good Friday, Procession of Jesús Sepultado from San Felipe Church.
The Image of Jesús Sepultado, arrived San Felipe’s village in 1670, coming from a hamlet called San Juan Perdido (devastated by an epidemic).
Originally, the image represented a crucified Christ, later in time, it was modified to represent a buried Jesus.
The image was consecrated on May 8th, 1986 by Monsignor Próspero Penados del Barrio, Guatemala’s Archbishop at the time.
During its early years, the procession had a small route. It entered for the first time to La Antigua in 1942. At present, the processional route, one of the longest in La Antigua, is realized every Good Friday and it lasts 15 hours approximately.
