The International Convention on Wildlife of Guatemala 2017 comes to the National Zoo La Aurora
The educational convention will be open to all professionals, students and others involved in wildlife management in the region.
The objectives are promoting the dissemination of work done in health, management and conservation of wildlife in the region and elsewhere in Latin America; exchanging information, knowledge and experiences; and fostering collaborations that will benefit wildlife conservation in the neo-tropics.
Special guests include Dr. Rodrigo Teixeira of Brazil from the TV series “Veterinario Extremo” from Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel. Teixeira will give several talks about preservation of animal species. Also participating will be Dr. Roberto Fecchio, pioneer in odontology of wild animals, including maxillofacial surgery and reconstruction of dental pieces in jaguars. Fecchio, also from Brazil, is an adviser to wildlife reserves in South Africa and South America. Dr. Eduardo Sacasa from Nicaragua will share his fascinating experience with tapir reproduction.
World-class exhibitors from the United States, Mexico, El Salvador, Spain, and, of course, many Guatemala veterinary medicine professionals and representatives will take part as well.
The event is organized by veterinarian Dennys Marroquín from Maya Vet Expedition Guatemala and supported by Dr. Flor Barrueta, together with the Community VATUC (Academic Travel and Scientific Tourism) of Colombia, and the support of National Council of Protected Areas, La Aurora National Zoological Park, University of San Carlos of Guatemala, College of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of Guatemala, Unit of Wildlife of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science Institute of Research in Animal Science and Ecosalud, Academic Council of Postgraduate FMVZ, National Association of Private Natural Reserves of Guatemala.
